What: When the OPP has (controlled possession of) the ball in MF3 about to penetrate our DF3, in a central area, where they are looking to combine with their #9.
Principles: Make it compact, keep it compact, Pressure, Cover, Balance, Press identified player and area, Outnumber the opponent.
Where: DF3, central area
Sub-Principles: Deny space for any passing channels forward, distance between players (CBs, CDMs), distance between lines (DF, MF), Distance of cover (6-8 yards), Angle of cover (45 degrees)
Who: 4-5-6-8 Player Actions: Speed of press and cover, Angle of press and cover (45 degrees), Timing of press and cover, Distance of press (1v1) and cover, Body shape of press and cover.
When: The OPP looking for a forward pass into #9 Coaching Points: Focus: Speed, Angle, Timing, Distance, Body Shape, Communication
Why: #4-5 are not pressuring tight enough, and the cover from the other CB does not have the right angle, time, and distance vs pressing DF.
