Naoya Inoue Nonito Donaire Rematch April 2022?

Even though he came up short against IBF Bantamweight Champion Naoya Inoue when they meet in the 2019 finals of The World Boxing Super Series. Nonito Dinaire had re-established himself as a major player in boxing.

At one point Donaire had appeared to be the heir apparent to Manny Pacquiao. However, after a couple of losses to Guillermo Rigondeaux & Nicholas Walters, he was all but written off. A loss to Carl Frampton prior to the tournament made him something of an afterthought going in. Ryan Burnett was the favored boxer who chose to fight him going into that fight. Donaire would go on to beat Stephon Young before the showdown with the highly favored Inoue.

Going into the fight Inoue had been living up to his nickname "The Monster" With stoppage wins in the first round against Jamie McDonnell & Juan Carlos Payano as well as a round 2 stoppage over Emmanuel Rodríguez in his WBSS semifinal.

It wasn’t that their fight was competitive. However, Inoue didn’t blow Donaire out of the ring. Donaire was able to give Inoue some problems as well as hurt him at times.

Even though Inoue clearly won. Donaire had gone from the washed-up afterthought he was entering the WBSS to once again an established name. He has added the WBC Bantamweight Championship to his collection.
