We all know the story and how Duke William of Normandy invaded England in late September of 1066 and then defeated King Harold Godwinson on October 14th, but the story often cuts here to his coronation and reign.

William's reign would see further English resistance, and his path to the crown in the dying months of 1066 was hardly smooth sailing, with ANOTHER rival claimant of the legitimate House of Wessex standing in his way.
