Our journey to Kagbhushanditaal- A mystical almond shaped lake with emerald waters situated at a height of 4800m in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand. Frozen in the valley between Kankul and Barnei passes, surrounded by the mighty Himalayan peaks HathiParbat, Chaukhambha and NarayanPeak, the lake beckoned us to experience its surreal beauty. Legend says it was the abode of Rishi Kakbhushandi who recited Ramayana to Garudaji. And we were all ears and happy feet stepping up the mountains and scaling the rocks. Trekking through the lush maple, oak and birch forests for two days, while sampling the vibrant alpine meadows, we reached Dang kharak, at 4100m on the third day. The flash floods of 2013 had swept away a major portion of Bhyundar glacier, the conventional route to cross Karnkhal (i.e. Bhyundar) Ganga. Clubbed with the heavy rains, the river was swollen enough that crossing it was not left as an option even after making three attempts in two days. Alas, we aborted this journey, but found ourselves following another, towards the Priyadarshini Valley of Flowers and Shri Hemkund Sahib, and were blessed by the sacred rites and tranquil blooms in a riot of colours.

A cursory thought which led to profound discussions translated into this beautiful 15 day trek leaving an everlasting impression on our souls.
