Scraper type binding thicknessing jig

Описание к видео Scraper type binding thicknessing jig

I made the Eric Schafer type binding thicknessing jig. I used a plane blade purchased on Amazon for $10 It works well.

In the video I show the first testing and then I thickness a length of walnut binding. This works as well as the spindle sander jig I have used previously and produces much more uniform results.

After making the jig, and finishing this movie I rethicknessed all the binding strips I had previously made. It took about an hour to rethicknes about 10 strips, reducing the thickness from about 3.5mm to 2.6mm.

The balde is sharpened with a 30 degree bevel. I did an experiment where I reversed the blade making the bevel side toward the backing board. The wood was pulled toward a 90 deg face rather than a 60 deg face . This was unstable and though it shaved the wood quickly
resulted in a wavy surface and uneven thickness. So, some cant angle appears to promote stability.
