Roll over tutorial! In 9 brief sessions (1-3 mins each) to doing the roll-over trick on a verbal cue only!

My next 9 videos will show you how Chai has learned the rollover trick! My way of moving the lure has been inspired by Kyra Sundance's videos (http://domorewithyourdog.com/).

Step #1: start out in a lured or cued down.

Step #2: put a treat in front of your dog's nose and slowly (or faster if your dog is as fast as mine) "pull" their nose, which should be "glued" to your treat, to the front shoulder you want to face upwards when the dog starts rolling. With some dogs, the first step will simply be taking a treat from your hand while turning their head towards their shoulder repeatedly. Mark before releasing the treat!

Step #3: eventually, your dog should roll over on the hip that is opposite the shoulder that you've been pulling their nose to. Why? Because it's more comfortable to eat in the position you've been feeding in that way! In this video, I'm pulling Chai's nose towards her right shoulder, and she eventually rolls over on her left hip.

Step #4: you'll end up with a dog who lies on their side. Not all dogs will offer this behavior in their first session, and that's okay! Some will briefly end up in that position and jump up again, and that's also okay! Others will end up in this position and stay. If this happens, keep feeding in position to get duration on your "flat dog!" In Chai's case, you'll hear me using her room service marker ("Goood!") once she's flat on her side. This marker cue means, "Keep doing what you're doing; the treat is coming to your mouth!"

The reason dogs will end up flat on their side with this method of luring is because gravity will sooner or later pull them onto their side if you consistently feed at one shoulder and get them to roll over on the opposite hip!
