Masking caps are small but important protective covers that are used during surface treatment processes. They are used to protect screws or other protruding axles that should not be exposed to treatment gases. Where masking caps are not used, screws that are exposed to treatment gases will have a layer of treatment over its screw threads. This thicker layer, even by a few microns, will cause the screw threads to become deformed, thus unable to fasten onto threaded holes.
In this video, we show what masking caps are and how they work. We also highlight the detriment of not using masking caps and how they may cause installation problems.
Masking caps are available in different profiles to suit almost any type of protruding axle. This video uses a screw profile as an example, but the same principle of how masking caps work applies to any type of axle.
