🌍 United Nations Resolution (2016)
In 2016, the United Nations Human Rights Council declared that “the same rights people have offline must also be protected online”. The resolution condemned internet shutdowns as human rights violations and urged all countries to ensure universal, affordable, and fair internet access.  

Important Court Cases in India:
⚖️ Anuradha Bhasin (2020)
The Supreme Court said internet access is essential for freedom of speech and profession under Articles 19(1)(a) & (g). Internet bans must be necessary, proportional, temporary, and subject to judicial review.  

📶 J&K 4G Case (2020)
After an extended internet blackout, 4G mobile internet restoration was delayed. The Supreme Court mandated regular security reviews and established a committee to recommend phased, area-wise restoration balancing security and rights.

🎓 Faheema Shirin (2019)
The Kerala High Court ruled that internet access is part of the right to education and privacy under Article 21. The case challenged restrictions on mobile and internet use during hostel evening hours (6 PM to 10 PM).  

♿ Amar Jain & Pragya Prasun (2025)
The Supreme Court recognized digital access, including internet connectivity, as a direct fundamental right under Article 21, especially for vulnerable groups like persons with disabilities. It ordered governments to make digital services accessible and inclusive.
