One of my favourite budget phones right now is the Pixel 6a, which boasts a gorgeous AMOLED screen, smooth performance and even water resistance. It's tough competition for the other best smartphones in this round-up, including the Poco F4 and Moto G82 - excellent choices for gamers, with their powerful specs, plus respectable camera tech.

One of the freshest options here is the Nothing Phone 1, which is a winner in almost every area. The camera is great, it's excellent for streaming media and battery life is much better after a couple of updates. Similarly great is the Realme 9 Pro Plus, with a cheaper 9 5G smartphone also available to save on cost.
