Описание к видео What if the Corsican Republic Survived? (NAPOLEON NEVER COMES OF POWER) // alt. history map speedart

In this timeline, Pasquale Paoli's Corsican Republic manages to come under the protectorship of the British Empire in the 1750s in order to protect it from the Genoese and to attain full recognition of their sovereignty, acting as a base for Britain to extend their military control. Thus, maintaining nominal Corsican sovereignty into the modern day.

In 1769, Napoleon Bonaparte would be born inside of the Corsican Republic but would never have attended French Military school and, by extension, would never have taken control of France. This would have altered the course of Modern European history in ways elaborated further in the video.

As the First French Republic would struggle to fight off the First Coalition. Corsica is used as a base for Britain to successfully invade and capture of city of Toulon, leading to the eventual fall of the republic and restoration of the Bourbons under a constitutional monarchy.

In 1821, gradually rising calls for Italian Republicanism lead to Milan seceding from Austria as the Ambrosian Republic. This republic would soon enter conflict with Sardinia-Piedmont over Hegemony over Northerrn Italy, culminating in the Republican Coalition of Milan, Genoa, Switzerland and Corsica defeating Sardinia between 1838-1843 and the exile of House Savoy to the Island of Sardinia. Milan and Genoa would then unite into the Lombard Republic and absorbed much of the smaller states surrounding it over the coming decades.

Corsica ended up annexing much of Northern Sardinia after the Republican Coalition War under the pretense that the Sassarese and Gallurese peoples were Corsican. creating an intense rivalry between the two island nations. Other minor regios in Mainland Italy like Piombino and Orbotello would alter by integreated into Corsica as a means to gaining British Protection and economic benefit.

Agriculture and Mining would be thse island largest produciton industries with goods like Marble, Granite, Wine, Citrus, and Apricots bieng exported to their largest trading partner: Britain. During the mid 20th century, Corsica would also grow its tourism sector, becoming a popular cheap vacation destination for British Tourists, leading to the expansio nof an Anglo-Corsican population around the most prominent and populous city: Ajaccio.

Today, While no longer a part of the empire, It is still a member of the British Commonwealth with Corsica's largest trading partners being the Two Sicilies, Lombardy, and France. It is a relatiely minor power within Southern Europe and to this day continues to have disputes with its historic rival, Sardinia.
