About
Indonesia had submitted Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDC) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat prior to COP-21, and the Updated NDC was submitted in 2021. Indonesia has also submitted the Enhanced NDC in September 2022 towards Indonesia’s Second NDC aligned with the Long-Term Low Carbon and Climate Resilience Strategy (LTS-LCCR) 2050 vision to achieve net-zero emission by 2060 or sooner. Building on these national strategies, the Regionally & Locally Determined Contributions (RLDC) is developed to contribute to achieving the stated national climate commitments from the bottom up, especially when considering the emission reduction target of the NDC and the national target to turn the forestry and other land use sectors into net sinks by 2030 and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2045 in Indonesia’s New Capital City, called Nusantara. As one of the strategic steps, the head of Nusantara Capital Authority has announced the Nusantara Regionally & Locally Determined Contribution at the 27th Conference of the Party (COP), November 2022 The RLDC Roadmap for Nusantara has been developed to achieve the carbon neutrality target by 2045. The roadmap will be informed using a cross-sectoral system dynamics model (i.e., a quantitative model that will estimate the GHG inventory for Nusantara and the impact on emissions of various social, economic, and environmental drivers). Using the model will allow us to calculate the financial implications of the RLDC, including mitigation and adaptation costs and possible investment plans.

The content and structure of an RLDC follow the NDC. As a result, the RLDC covers emissions and mitigation actions in five sectors: energy, industrial processes and product uses (IPPU), waste, agriculture, forestry and other land uses (FOLU), and construction as an additional sector that contributes to emission. In Addition, the RLDC Roadmap document will provide the action plan on the mitigation and adaptation sectors, along with its financial aspects. RLDC plays a crucial part in defining the sustainability action plan of Nusantara as a Forest City and deserve an international spotlight. Therefore, this talk show session shall be the opportunity to launch the Nusantara RLDC as well as a sharing session to build a discussion with international audiences regarding the strategic movements in achieving carbon neutrality locally and globally.
