In September I had the privilege of attending the 🇪🇺 IDC World Championship 🏆 in Zagreb, Croatia 🇭🇷 — the highest stage for our breed. The IDC isn’t just another show. It’s where the most serious breeders, trainers, and owners gather, where the best Dobermanns in the world are evaluated, and where reputations are built not through social media followers but through proof — in both temperament and conformation. There is no prize money here — only recognition, respect, and accountability.

At first, it’s hard to get past seeing every single dog with natural ears and tails. Back home in the USA 🇺🇸, all dogs are cropped and docked. But once you move past the ears and tails, you really start to focus on the details of the dog 🔍

For me, being here was more than just spectating. It was a continuation of my education and another weekend that fueled my addiction to these dogs. I had the chance to put names to faces, to see dogs in real life that I’d only studied on paper or admired through a screen, and to connect with breeders and owners who mentor me and whom I look up to 🤝

Events like this are essential to our program. Photos and videos don’t tell the full story — I have to see the dogs I work with in person, watch them move, feel their temperament, and see how they handle themselves. It’s not enough for me to just pick a dog out of a lineup or a magazine and then decide that he/she are a good fit for our program. I need to experience them firsthand — they need to earn my trust.

I’m grateful for the hospitality, the friendships — both new and old 🌍— and the chance to spend the weekend simply talking dogs. Weekends like this remind me exactly why I’m here: for the dogs, for the families who love them, and for the future of this incredible breed. And while the politics are always there (anyone who competes can relate), experiences like this rise above it all and bring the focus back to what truly matters....THE DOGS 🖤
