As Saint Petersburg prepares to host the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF)—Russia’s premier annual business and investment event—Moscow is sending a clear message to foreign companies that left the country: don’t expect an easy return.

In an exclusive interview with RT, Dmitry Birichevsky, head of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s Economic Cooperation Department, stated that foreign firms wishing to resume operations in Russia must first prove their credibility and demonstrate genuine respect for Russia’s sovereignty and economic interests.

Birichevsky emphasized that Russia is now focused on strengthening partnerships with countries that engage on equal and respectful terms, and that the days of unchecked Western influence over the Russian market are over.

The remarks come as Russia showcases its growing self-reliance and pivots toward new global economic alliances amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
