During the 1965 India-Pakistan war, the Indian Army had the capability to make Lahore a part of India.

The Jat Regiment of the Indian Army is known for its bravery and dedication.

On September 6, 1965, the 3rd Jat Battalion of the Indian Army was ordered to capture Dograi village in Pakistan.

Dograi village was located approximately 12 to 13 kilometers from Lahore.

The Indian Army was on the verge of capturing Dograi, but then, the Pakistan Air Force launched heavy attacks, forcing the 3rd Jat Battalion to retreat.

After this, several attempts by the Indian Army to capture Dograi were unsuccessful.

However, the Indian Army came up with a new plan and decided to launch a fresh attack on the night of September 21.

The commanding officer of the 3rd Jat Battalion was Lieutenant Colonel Desmond Hayde.

In this final attack, 550 brave Jat soldiers fought, and a fierce battle broke out between the two countries.

This time, the Indian Army successfully captured Dograi.

But the very next day, the Indian forces had to withdraw, as a ceasefire was announced.
