Acids

They also give hydroxonium ions when dissolved in water.

Bases or Alkalis

2.    Bases or alkalis are those compounds which are bitter in taste, slippery to touch,
and turn red litmus blue. They form hydroxide ions when dissolved in water.

Neutralization

3.    In a neutralization reaction, aqueous solution of acid reacts with aqueous solution of base to give salt and water.

Arrhenius Concept

4.    According to Arrhenius definitions:

o   Acids give protons in water.
