Gaius Iulius Caesar Octavianus (September 23, 63 BC - August 19, 14), whose title was Emperor Octavianus Augustus or Augustus Caesar (Latin: Imperator Caesar Divi Filivs Avgvtvs), was the first Roman Emperor and one of the most influential. After Julius Caesar was killed and given the formal title of "Julius the god" (divus Iulius), Emperor Augustus assumed the formal title of divi filius - a Latin phrase meaning "son of god" or "son of god" after the Roman Senate assigned divine status to Caesar from January 1, 42 BC.
