The Brandt Family's story begins as they adjust to their new life in the quiet, suburban neighborhood of Newcrest. Three years ago, Lydia finally decided to leave her abusive ex-husband, Samuel Brandt. Lydia, Dylan and Lauren fled the toxic lifestyle again for the third and final time. Lauren was 14 when they left their father, and Dylan was only 7. They had lived in a small apartment for almost a year when Lydia met Nicholas. Meanwhile, Samuel is living in Oasis Springs with his nutjob, druggie girlfriend. After an altercation that occurred between Lydia, Sam and Nicholas, they felt very threatened. Nicholas convinced Lydia to move in with him and they bought a house together in Newcrest. The storyline begins about two months after the move, with Lauren being 17 and Dylan 10. All seems well in the Brandt household. Lauren has new friends, Lydia is the happiest she has been in a long time, and Dylan is finally realizing what it is like to have a fatherly figure in his life. However, good things always come to an end. Can Nick create the life the Brandts have always deserved? Or will the past come back to haunt them?
