Clem breaks the lock and enters the school’s basement to find Marlon and Brody vehemently arguing. Marlon tries to get her to leave, but Brody reveals that he’d given Minerva and Sophie to the raiders the previous year. Enraged, Marlon angrily snaps and strikes Brody in the head with his flashlight, mortally wounding her. Dying, Brody warns Clem that Marlon was going to give her and AJ to the raiders if they returned; and Marlon panics and locks Clem in the cellar with Brody, who reanimates as a walker. Clem is forced to kill Brody with the flashlight and exits the basement alive.
