Using Bolt cutters might be dangerous, but using these diagonal cutters seemed to be quite safe. Was able to come in parallel to the finger and didn’t need any shield under the ring. Cut the ring in 3 smaller nips (instead of a single cut)

Note that this model cutters is a bit more expensive than the cheaper diagonal cutters. It has a lower profile precision head (which made it easier to do the cut this way), but is still large and powerful enough. Cost is around $14 to $17.

Ring is 18k gold.
