every Journey - no matter the distance, begins with a first step... this was mine.

I am surrounded by exceptionally talented human beings in both my personal and professional lives, and for that I consider myself richly blessed. still, the human part of me often wonders "what if" - especially after coming into contact with these things by proxy of the same aforementioned friends and colleagues.

In December 2020, I was invited to drive 4stroke karts with a group of friends - all from various motorsport backgrounds. Divided into two man teams, I was paired with a professional race instructor/driver - and while our championship win meant the world to me, it also left an inexplicable hole that I knew I hadn't earned it myself.

Thus set into motion a chain of events where I found the CalSpeed Super Series, entered and actually raced against proper Kart drivers. The results were mixed, but very humbling.

The "skill" I thought I had, clearly needs work - but overall, I feel great to have truly tested myself, even if I came up short. The battle I had with #39 (Jack Heiting) was epic. I don't know him, and wasn't able to talk with him after the race - but damnit bro, that was some awesome driving and our battle in the C-Main literally made my entire weekend. I threw EVERYTHING I had at trying to regain the position I gave up to you - and it was the most fun I've had in a Kart since starting. Thank you dude, if you ever see this, what a battle.
