We explain the three key stages of designing a modern surface combatant: the conceptual, preliminary, and technical design stages.
The conceptual stage defines the warship's mission profile—whether it's air defense, anti-submarine warfare, or escorting aircraft carriers.
The preliminary stage determines the placement of key systems, such as vertical launching systems (VLS), radar, sonar, and helicopter facilities.
The technical stage develops the preliminary design into a full blueprint, from which construction of the destroyer can begin.
