After some 30 minutes of riding, because of injuries and very strong grip strength, the small diameter of the grips causes the veins and arteries in my palms to be restricted. This will make your palms numb and I figured that a larger diameter would help with being less restrictive. I hope this help you all, but I do feel the larger diameter is an immediate improvement.
