FREDDIE GRAY INVESTIGATION
Baltimore’s city prosecutor has received the initial police investigation report for the death of a black man, Freddie Gray. Gray suffered spinal injuries in police custody. His death caused major protest and riots in the city. Prosecutor Marilyn Mosby is responsible for using the police report as part of her investigation together with the medical examiner's report and witness accounts.

BAGHDAD BOMBINGS
Five car bombs went off in capital Baghdad on Thursday. Five people were killed in the Iskan neighbourhood. Security forces said the attacks appeared to be linked with coordinated attacks. In February this year, the Iraqi government lifted the city’s midnight to 5am curfew. The curfew had aimed to curb attacks by ISIS fighters. However, after the curfew was lifted, attacks have increased.

NAVY TO HORMUZ
United States defence officials have said U.S. Navy warships will now accompany U.S. commercial vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Two days ago, Iran seized a Marshall Islands-flagged U.S.-owned cargo ship. U.S. military vessels are already in the Arabian Sea. This will mean an increased U.S. military presence in the waters dividing Iran and Oman. Defence officials say the decision is temporary and not all the ships will be accompanied.

NATO’S RUSSIA CLAIMS
U.S. commander Philip Breedlove, NATO’s supreme commander in Europe has said that the Russian army is seeking the opportunity to "reset and reposition." A ceasefire signed on April 12th has relatively decreased tension between Russia and NATO. It has also significantly decreased violence in eastern Ukraine between pro-Russian separatists and the Ukrainian army. However, Breedlove said many of Russia’s actions are consistent with preparations for another offensive.
