Like Muslims in Indonesia, Muslims in this country located in Central Asia also perform the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. In 2008, Muslims from the Republic of Tajikistan, a splinter country of the Soviet Union which borders Afghanistan, PRC, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan sent as many as 5,200 pilgrims.

According to the religious authorities of Tajikistan, the number of pilgrims in 2008 jumped 10 times compared to the year 2000.
