Pat Yankee was born the small Northern California town of Lodi. A “spindly” child, she was put into dance classes excelling at tap, doing shows at the American Legion.

At age 13 Pat caught the last wave of Vaudeville, booked as a solo-featured tap dancer at the Golden Gate Theatre in SF. Performing on stage during her summer vacations,
she stayed at a hotel in the city with a chaperone.

During WWII she performed at the Stage Door and Hollywood Canteens and Harry James backed her tapping. Toward the end of the ’40s she headed back to the West Coast.

Yankee eventually got her own band together -- Pat Yankee and her Sinners (seen in the video) who played all over Tahoe and Vegas.

But it was Turk Murphy who provided her best gig – financially and artistically. She stayed with Murphy more than a decade and was a welcome guest to the end.

Miss Yankee died in May 2022. This little tribute shows her with the Turk Murphy Jazz Band, featuring Bob Helm in 1959.
