One of the lesser known attractions in West Virginia is the 876 ft (267 mtr) New River Gorge Bridge in Fayetteville. Last summer, I had wonderful time exploring the verdant corridors around this bridge. And in this video, I wanted to show you some of the activities and things you can do in the New River Gorge area.

The premier attraction of the area is the New River Gorge Bridge, the third highest bridge in the US. You can marvel at its construction from the rapids below or view it from the many scenic viewpoints scattered across the cliffs. These lush green mountain sides are exceptionally beautiful in summer and fall with colors popping up everywhere and giving a great backdrop for the bridge.

You can walk under the bridge with the guided New River Gorge Bridge Walk tours as well.

Another one of West Virginia's attractions in the New River Gorge area is the Glade Creek Grist Mill. You might have noticed the picture of this mill in many calendars and magazines. I was so excited to know that this was the mill that I grew up seeing on my wall back in the time when you had to refer to a paper calendar to know that date (all hail cellphones!).

There are plenty of activities for every type of personality in the New River Gorge area - starting from adventurous rock climbing to Class V whitewater rafting to hiking to just enjoying their beautiful campgrounds and fishing at the Summersville Lake.... probably with a good book in hand or some good company. The limestone cliffs of the Summersville Lake provide a backdrop worthy of exploration on a boat or kayak. I am unsure if you are allowed to jump into the water from the cliffs.
