​The Name Change: In 1978, with the rise of the New Wave movement, the remaining trio changed their name simply to The Cure.

​Defining Debut: Their first album, Three Imaginary Boys, dropped in 1979. It was a minimalist, nervy, and somewhat anxious collection of songs that placed them right at the forefront of the new Post-Punk movement in the UK.

​First Iconic Hit: While many of their biggest hits came later, their earliest essential single was released in 1979: "Boys Don't Cry." It established their blend of infectious pop melody with dark, vulnerable lyrical themes—a contrast that would define their decades-long career.
