The 2019 season featured no less than six hurricane strength cyclones, with four reaching major status and two going on to become Category 5 storms on the Saffir-Simpson Scale. The strongest storm of the season was Cyclone Kyarr, with winds of 165mph and a pressure of 912mb, making it tied for the strongest storm recorded in the basin, and second most intense. Cyclone Fani triggered 2.4 million evacuations in India and Bangladesh, the highest worldwide storm evacuation of the year. Cyclone Bulbul was the most destructive storm, damaging over 600,000 structures - the basin's highest since 1991. Cyclone Fani was the costliest storm, with monetary losses of $4.28bn.
