Hello dear elephant lovers, welcome back to our channel, this video is dedicated to all our beloved tusker lovers. This is the treatment process of one of the most beautiful, majestic, and proud elephant creatures in the world, Tuskers.
The officers are on a mission to treat an elephant that is injured after a fight.
So, without further ado let’s get into the story.
Musth, also known as must, is a periodic condition in bull or male elephants that is characterized by aggressive behavior and a significant increase in reproductive hormone levels. It has been known in Asian elephants for 3000 years.
Due to their aggressive behavior, during the musth season, this elephant has had an aggressive fight with another elephant.
Some villagers have noticed the visible wounds on the tusker and they have notified the wildlife officials about the sad incident.
Then these officials arrived immediately to save the tusker's life. They are extremely committed officers who work passionately to safeguard wild animals in desperate need of assistance.
As the first step, the officers sedate the animal with the anesthetic drug using a tranquilizer gun. Actually, it is one of the essential steps before approaching an injured elephant, especially in its musth period.
They prepare the necessary medications for the elephant until it is fully sedated.
In order to make the treatment process easier and more convenient they start their process by cutting off some of the plants and tree branches around the elephant.
The officers approached the injured animal and began inspecting it more closely. It has multiple wounds along with maggots and flies all over its wounds, including the backside, trunk, and head, which causes considerable discomfort. All of these wounds are the outcome of an epic battle for power.
Veterinarians inject medicines such as antibiotics, multivitamins, and painkillers based on the injured tusker's body weight. These medications are administered intramuscularly.
The next step of treatment involves cleaning the wounds by removing the maggots and flies from the wounds. This is one of the most essential steps in treating this kind of wound. Because if the cleaning process is not done properly that could cause further infections and delay the healing process.
The officer in charge of treating the wounds sprays antiseptic fly repellent spray to get rid of the insects and provide external protection for the wound.
As we demonstrated at the beginning of the video, this injury is the outcome of a fierce battle between one tusker and another. It is not an injury that involves a human. Such conflicts between tuskers are common, especially throughout the musth period.
Then the officer uses cotton sheets soaked in saline solution to completely disinfect the wound.
Once the wounds are cleaned, they apply an on-site-produced solution consisting of Povidone iodine solution mixed with Negasunt powder.
Elephants are gorgeous animals, and their tusks immediately come to mind when you think of them. These beautiful ivory structures frequently appear in photographs of this incredible creature, adding a special appeal to its stately appearance.
Mahasen, the tusker captured in this video, is the largest tusker in Sri Lanka.
Now the revival drug is injected into the tail of the injured elephant. This marks the end of the treatment mission for today. The officers will monitor the condition of the tusker until he fully recovers from the wounds, which is sure to happen with proper treatment.
During mating season, male elephants use their tusks to demonstrate dominance and acquire the love of their mates.
Unfortunately, the rising demand for elephant ivory in recent years has resulted in a significant decrease in the number of tuskers on our planet, even those without tusks are vulnerable to poaching.
To conserve this wonderful species for future generations, the extinction of these gorgeous creatures should be eliminated, and the ivory trade should be stopped.
Given their value and rarity, these elephants serve as a valuable source for the entire world. So, it is our shared responsibility to protect them, and we all wish this lovely young tusker a speedy recovery and a long, healthy lifespan.
That is the conclusion of this recovery mission.
