Jason Brown, NFL center for the St. Louis Rams, hung up his cleats to become a farmer. What might be more impressive than Brown leaving behind millions in the NFL is the fact he's never been a farmer. The story starts back in 2009, when the Rams signed Brown to a five-year $37.5 million contract with $20 million guaranteed. Three years later, the team decided to go another way and released him. Instead of going to another team, which he had several offers, Brown decided to try his hand at farming and is now on a mission to help feed residents in North Carolina who are hungry. He started out by purchasing just over 1,000 acres of farm land, growing crops like sweet potatoes and cucumbers. The name of his operation is called “First Fruits Farm,” and as part of his plan, Brown is donating the first fruits of every harvest to area food pantries. He just recently finished his first harvest of a five acre plot of sweet potatoes; a whopping 100,000 pounds of food, which as promised he donated to the needy. He says his plan was inspired by God, and believes a life of service is much more fulfilling than his previous line of work. “When you see them pop up out of the ground, man, it’s the most beautiful thing you could ever see,” Brown said, adding he’s never felt more successful. He realizes his small farm will barely make a dent in his state’s hunger population, but he's determined to continue "pushing the sled" one small step at a time. He told reporters..."My agent told me, 'You're making the biggest mistake of your life,'I looked right back at him and I said,'No Sir I'm not!'"
