कसायला जमीन नाही. कुटुंबाचे पोट भरायचे तर रोज उठून मोल मजुरीने दुसऱ्याच्या शेतात राबायचे. मरमर कष्ट करायचे आणि जगायचे. भविष्यात काय वाढले आहे काय नाही? याची सदोदित चिंता असायची. घरात अठरा विश्व दारिद्र. अशातच बालपणी त्यांनी शालेय शिक्षण घेण्यासाठी कधीच अट्टाहास केलेला नव्हता. तरीही एक असामान्य जिद्द धरित त्यांनी दारिद्रय रेषे खालील कुटुंबातील महिलांना एकत्र करीत "अंबिका महिला बचत गट" निर्माण करण्याची एक योजना आखली आणि यशस्वी केलीही.

कधीच हाती पाटी-पेन्सिल हाती न घेतलेली 'ती' अशिक्षित महिला आज सुशिक्षित महिलांना रोजगाराची गुरुकिल्ली देत आहे. आत्मसंन्मान प्राप्त करुन देणाऱ्या या देशपातळी वरील कदाचित पहिल्या सबला महिला असाव्यात.या सबलेचे नाव आहे कमलताई शंकर परदेशी. मु. पो. खुटबाव ता. दौंड, जि. पुणे हा त्यांचा रहिवाशी पत्ता. त्यांनी आपल्यातील नेतृत्व गुण आधीच ओळखले आणि आपण जरी सुशिक्षित नसलो तरी अन्य महिला भगिनींना कायम स्वरूपी रोजगार उपलब्ध करुन द्यावा असा मनोनिश्चय करीत अंबिका महीला बचत गटाची स्थापना 3 नोव्हेंबर 2004 साली केली. याच माध्यमातुन महीलांना आत्मसन्मान मिळवुन देणारा मसाला उद्योग उभा करुन बचत गटाचा वेलु कारखाना उभा करुन दाखविला.

कमलताई परदेशी यांनी शिक्षणाचा गंध नसतानाही महीलांना एकत्र करुन बचत गटाच्या माध्यमातून एक वेगळे विश्व निर्माण केले.या विश्वाची व्याप्ती आणि तीचा पसारा आज वाढत चालला आहे.कमलताई परदेशी यांना आजपर्यंत जवळ जवळ ५६ राज्य व राष्ट्रीय स्तरावरील पुरस्कार मिळाले आहेत. माजी राष्ट्रपती मा.प्रणब मुखर्जी यांच्या हस्ते त्यांना पुरस्कार मिळाला आहे.

अंबिका मसाला भारतातच नव्हे तर भारताबाहेर देखील प्रसिध्द झाला आहे. भारताबाहेरच्या लोकांना या मसाल्याची आवड निर्माण झाली आहे. यशस्विनी अभियान आणि खासदार सुप्रियाताई सुळे यांच्या माध्यमातून अंबिका बचत गट भरारी घेत आहे. हा उद्याेग दिवसेंदिवस वाढत आहे या महीला बचत गटाचा हा उद्योग मोठ्या प्रमाणात भांडवल उपलब्ध झाले तर अजुन वाढेल यात शंका नाही.

आज मुंबईतील बिगबाझार आणि इतर अनेक मोठ्या स्टोअर्स मध्ये या मसाला उत्पादनास मोठी मागणी आहे.32 प्रकारच्या मसाल्यांचे उत्पादन हा महीला कारखाना निर्माण करत आहे. कमल तांईनी आपल्या गटातील महिलांच्या कर्तुत्वाच्या जोरावर एक नवा अध्याय बचत गटांच्या इतिहासात सुवर्णाक्षरानी लिहिला आहे.

The story of a 55-year-old Kamaltai Pardeshi from Daund is enough to inspire a movie on her. This lady from a village of Kutbao rose from being a farm labourer to establish a Rs7-crore factory funded by NABARD. If not laying foundation for her business ventures, then Pardeshi is busy helping women and farmers become self-dependent. Her latest act being helping farmers' wives from Pune to set-up a food stall in an ongoing exhibition in Thane.

Born in 1961 in a poor family, Pardeshi is the youngest of her four siblings. Since her parents were poor, she, along with her three brothers, received no education. "I started working with my mother on our farm at 12 and after I got married, I worked on my husband's farm," said Pardeshi, who is in Thane with her masala (spice) stalls at the Maharashtra Bazarpeth exhibition held at Gaodevi ground in Thane west, which will go on till April 24.

Since her husband's farm was a barren land, they took to tilling on other farms to make ends meet. But her calling to work for the society from her childhood days made her inquisitive and explore the world of business that could also empower others. "I learnt about mahila bachat gat (women savings group) and for the first time stepped into a bank to open an account," she added.
Though sceptical about opening the bank as she was not sure if she would be considered worthy to open one, she was taken by surprise when the bank staff replied in the affirmative. "It was me and nine other women and we received a loan of Rs10 lakh from Maharashtra bank to start our business," she said.

With just Rs 300 in her pocket and the will to improve her family's condition, which includes her three daughters, she opened asmall masala manufacturing unit in 2000. Almost close to two decades, today she runs a factory with 200 women and is in talks with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) to start her masala factory.

"My dream is to export organic masalas abroad, where raw materials will be sourced from farmers," she explained
