The Carbon Snake is a classic chemistry demonstration for showing decomposition and combustion reactions in the chemistry lab. Craig Beals from Beals Science shows three different ways that a carbon snake can be made to model some amazing chemical reactions. The first experiment is the Fuel and Sugar Carbon Snake which is the easiest and simplest method and has the slowest formation of the carbon snake. The second demo shows the Sulfuric Acid and Sugar Carbon Snake which forms much more quickly but releases harmful gases. The third demo is the P-Nitroalinine Carbon Snake which is a rapid reaction that produces a complex carbon matrix. Explanations, reaction information, and equipment will all be described on a new page on the Beals Science website a few weeks.
