The work ethic of people who get up every morning and just get on with it must be rewarded.

For too long, the Tories oversaw an economy where 1.5 million MORE people were in work but still in poverty. That has to change.

Today, I highlighted the need for the Employment Rights Bill and the importance of Labour’s Make Work Pay agenda.

➡Raising Wages
➡Rewarding Contribution
➡Strengthening Rights

This Christmas, young people serving pints or working in shops on minimum wage will earn £1.40 more an hour than two Christmases ago because of the action Labour has taken.

We must make sure that for those on the lowest incomes work pays again because for far too many for far too long the reward has been far too meagre.

And the spirit of workers demanding fair pay and fair conditions is alive this Christmas in the hospitality workers at Village Hotel and Vue in Glasgow — who I raised in Parliament and who have my full solidarity. ✊
