Civil unrest has erupted across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, with thousands taking to the streets in Muzaffarabad, Mirpur, Kotli, and Neelam Valley. The protests, led by the Awami Action Committee, were triggered by discontent over refugee seats in the POK assembly, which locals claim infringe on their rights. Protesters are also demanding action on food and power shortages, alleging decades of neglect. The Shehbaz Sharif government responded with force, leading to a virtual lockdown with internet services suspended. Eyewitnesses allege that Pakistan Army and ISI-backed individuals opened fire on unarmed protesters, resulting in at least one death and multiple injuries. One protester, comparing the situation to another conflict zone, stated, "Farak kya rahega ki wahan pe kaafir tha yahan pe musalman musalmanon ko marega" (What will be the difference? There, an infidel was killing, here a Muslim will kill a Muslim). The Awami Action Committee has paused its protest until October 15.
