Dr. Partho Haldar grew up in Dulkigram, deep in the Sundarbans, where life was tough, electricity was scarce and even snakes were a daily threat. Schooling was limited, so he walked or cycled six kilometres every day to study. His parents later sent him 300 kilometres away to pursue better education, giving him a Bible as he left home.

Hostel life pushed him off track. He drifted from studies and picked up habits that pulled him down. After failing to keep up academically, Partho returned home burdened and discouraged. That’s when he opened the Bible again and surrendered his life to Jesus on May 21, 2002. It changed everything.

He returned to college with new focus. He quit old habits, studied hard and earned a spot at Scottish Church College for Chemistry Honours. Even though English-medium academics were new to him, he adapted in a month. His performance kept rising. Partho cleared the National Eligibility Test, earned an integrated Ph.D. scholarship and later completed his doctorate from the Russian Academy of Sciences.

He credits his journey to the faith and perseverance he saw in Joseph and Daniel from the Bible. Today he serves as an Assistant Professor at Scottish Church College, grateful for the guidance, wisdom and peace he believes God gave him through every setback and breakthrough.

This is the story of a boy from the Sundarbans who never stopped climbing.
