There will always be good people and there will always be bad people who do bad things. But for good people to do bad things, that takes religion.

The Jehovah's Witness religion prohibits its members from accepting blood transfusions. This belief is based on their interpretation of biblical texts, such as Genesis 9:4, Leviticus 17:14, and Acts 15:29, which they interpret as prohibitions against consuming blood in any form. They believe this prohibition applies to medical procedures as well.

This policy has led to significant ethical and legal conflicts, especially in cases involving children. When a child's life is at risk and a blood transfusion is considered medically necessary, a conflict often arises between the parents' religious beliefs and the child's right to life. In many countries, courts have intervened to authorize blood transfusions for minors, arguing that a child's health and life take precedence over parental religious objections.

Genesis 9:4: "Only flesh with its soul—its blood—you must not eat."

Jehovah's Witnesses interpret this as a command from God to all of mankind after the flood. They believe it establishes that blood is sacred because it represents life, and therefore, it should not be consumed.

Leviticus 17:10–14: This passage reiterates the prohibition against eating blood, particularly in the context of the Mosaic Law given to the Israelites. It states, "I will set my face against the soul that is eating the blood."

Jehovah's Witnesses see this as a restatement of the command given to Noah, emphasizing that the prohibition on consuming blood is a serious matter.

Acts 15:28–29: This New Testament passage records a decision by the first-century Christian governing body. It states that Gentile Christians should "keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication."

Jehovah's Witnesses view this as a clear confirmation that the command to "abstain from blood" is a fundamental requirement for all Christians, not just a temporary dietary rule.

The "Declaration" Itself
The declaration, which was prepared by Rutherford, included a section that seemed to align the organization's goals with those of the new Nazi regime. The text read:

"A careful examination of our books and literature will disclose the fact that the very high ideals held and promulgated by the present national government are set forth in and endorsed and strongly emphasized in our publications."

Additionally, the document included language that attacked the Anglo-American Empire and Jewish people, which some historians have interpreted as an attempt to show common ground with the Nazis and distinguish Jehovah's Witnesses from what the Nazis considered to be their enemies.


This strategy of appeasement was unsuccessful and led to a new wave of intensified persecution against Jehovah's Witnesses in Germany.
