1. Scene Description
On the boat, the fisherman uses a long pole with a metal hook at the end to hook the caught moray eel near its body or head, and pulls the fish aboard from the water with leverage.

2. Why must a long hooked pole be used instead of bare hands?

Moray eels have sharp teeth and strong bite force. When provoked, they twist and bite violently, so it is very easy to get bitten if grabbed with bare hands.

The eel has a smooth, scaleless body that is hard to grip firmly by hand, so it can easily slip back into the sea or break the line and escape.

The long pole keeps a safe distance, preventing the fisherman from leaning too far out and improving stability on the rocking boat.

3. Physics and Force Principles

The long pole acts as a lever: light pressure or pulling at the rear end creates strong pulling force at the front.

The hook pierces the surface of the fish, increasing friction and preventing the fish from breaking free during struggle.

Pulling upward at an angle, using the height difference of the boat, minimizes buoyancy and water resistance.

4. Risks Caused by the Eel’s Struggle

Once hooked, the moray eel twists, thrashes and wraps itself powerfully.

During the pulling process, the eel may suddenly jump up and lash toward the fisherman’s face or hands.

The fishing line, the eel’s body and the pole may become tangled, leading to loss of control.
