Minelab GPX 5000 Metal Detector Settings for Relic Hunting & Live Digs on a Civil War Site

Описание к видео Minelab GPX 5000 Metal Detector Settings for Relic Hunting & Live Digs on a Civil War Site

Join me for a day of metal detecting on a Civil War Site with the Minelab GPX 5000 metal detector using the 15” Detech Ultimate Spiral Coil. This was a relic hunt that had many twists and turns in it.

I started out with the intention to compare the XP Deus II, Tarsacci MTD 8000 and the Minelab Equinox 800. I spent about an hour marking 12 signals with the XP Deus II detector that I was running in the Relic Program with the IAR set to 5. This was a relatively small area roughly 20’ x 30’ or less. Most of the signals gave a strong audio but none of them sounded like a “really” good signal.

I went over the same area with both the Tarsacci and the Equinox set to my best settings for this site. But I did work with many of the signals by trying different frequencies and settings. As it turned out I was able to get a signal on all the targets that I had found with the XP Deus II. I systematically hunted the same area with all 3 detectors but those 12 signals were the only signals I could get and they all sounded iffy. A few of them did give VDI readings on the non-ferrous side for both the Tarsacci and the Equinox though but wouldn’t lock on.

I spent most of the day making a video of this comparison, but as it turned out my SD card filled up and died on me. When I got home, all this footage was lost.

I ended up hiking back to the jeep with all three detectors and swapped them for the GPX 5000. Even though at this point I was almost too tired to detect but I pushed forward until it was time for me to get off the farm.

After I dug a few targets, I took the time to go over my settings that I was using on the GPX 5000. The screens ended up very hard to read on the video, so I did some editing to help save the footage. I made the settings easier to read and tweaked the vocals a little. Sometimes these Live Digs on Civil War sites have technical issues.

This site has some strange soil that changes many times in a small area. It goes from being very red and hot to darker and hot and is highly magnetized for some reason. Also, there are 3 distinct sources of EMI that wreaks havoc on the GPX. It all seems to converge in one area. When I get away from that one particular area, the detector becomes much more stable. I’m sure this ground and the EMI causes just as much trouble for the other detectors I was using earlier in the day.

It turned out to be a good day of relic hunting after all even though I lost most of the footage.

I hope you enjoy being with me on these metal detecting adventures and that you will keep following me on YouTube and Facebook. Together, we can Save a lot of Local History.

I would like to thank all of you who watch my videos and I'd like to encourage you to subscribe to my YouTube channel if you haven't done so already. It's free and it helps me to stay motivated to keep making the videos.

I hope you enjoy the video and that you will share it with others.
