NASA announced its Kepler space mission found more than 100 alien planets.
As Kepler faced some technical difficulties ,scientists launched K2 mission and it gave some positive results.
Ian Crossfield of University of Arizona’s announced at the American Astronomical Society the K2 campaigns, which scanned different parts of the universe have produced over 100 validated planets. This validation of K2 mission’s ability to find large number of true planets. Apart it has located 234 more potential planets which are waiting confirmation.
Tom Barclay of NASA’s Ames Research Center said: “It’s probing different types of planets (than the original Kepler mission).
“We’re focusing on stars that are much brighter, stars that are nearer by, stars that are more easy to understand and observe from the Earth.
the K2 not only looks at planets orbiting other stars, but gives ground control a chance to peer at planets in our solar system, as well as supernovas and free floating planets which travel through starless galaxies.
Mr Barclay said: “The area I get most excited about is the study of bodies in our own solar system. It’s just so new for us, it’s something we’ve never done before with the spacecraft.
