How To: Enable VLC remote control for iPhone and Android

Описание к видео How To: Enable VLC remote control for iPhone and Android

VLC is undoubtedly the best media player around. What most people don't realize is that they can easily control it with their smartphone without buying any of those dodgy "free trial" apps from the market.

By default VLC already comes with a remote controller interface that can be accessed by any smartphone device, you just have to enable it and open a specific webpage on your smartphone.

Here is how to set it up:

1) Open VLC
2) Press Ctrl+P or go to "Tools" and then "Preferences"
3) On the bottom left of the window enable show all settings
4) On the Advanced Preferences window go to "Interface" and then "Main Interfaces", make sure the Web checkbox is ticked on
5) On a sub-branch of "Main Interfaces" select the "Lua" branch
6) Define the Lua HTTP Password to whatever you want (make sure you remember it)
7) Save settings and restart VLC

You have now configured VLC to have a webpage controller interface accessible when it's running. Now to access it:

8) Discover what your local IP is by clicking Window/Start button and typing "cmd" to launch the Command Prompt
9) In the command prompt type "ipconfig" or "ipconfig /all", your local IP will be listed there, memorize it.
10) Launch the remote controller on any browser of any computer connected to the same network as your machine running VLC, and type in your IP address followed by ":8080" to indicate the port -
in my case it was http://192.168.1.11:8080
11) Leave the username blank, input the password you defined on VLC
12) bookmark the page - it will work as long as the machine retains the same IP on the network which it usually does; VLC needs to already be running

Enjoy your VLC remote controller!
