Like many Nitro Circus contraptions, the trike began as a bit of a joke. That joke got real when the Crew figured out how to modify a children's tricycle to withstand the impact of an adult ramping it over a 40-foot gap. In true Nitro style, the athletes then took this terrible idea even further and started doing FMX and BMX tricks on them. Preston Godfrey's backflip cliffhanger is perhaps the pinnacle of this insanity.
