The village was constructed in 1979, and a picturesque fishing village set was created to replicate the fictional village of Sweethaven from the Popeye comics and cartoons. The set designers and builders transformed the rocky coastline into a charming village, complete with colorful wooden houses, a harbor, a church, and various other structures.

After the film production ended, the set was not dismantled, and instead, it was preserved as a tourist attraction due to its unique and enchanting appeal. Popeye Village is now a theme park and open-air museum, offering visitors the opportunity to step into the whimsical world of Popeye and his friends.

Upon arrival at Popeye Village, visitors are greeted by costumed actors portraying characters from the Popeye series. The village features interactive shows, live performances, and various activities suitable for all ages. Visitors can explore the different houses, watch entertaining performances, and participate in workshops, such as olive oil soap making or DIY crafts.
