The Devil Tarot Card - Meaning and Symbolism

Meet The Devil, one of the most notable cards in the tarot deck.

The Devil reversed is January 2022's card in my blog (link below) and the one that sets the tone for the year. We cover both the upright and reversed meaning and symbolism in the card in this video.

Traditional meanings of the Devil upright are: Restriction, fear, shadow, addiction, abuse, and/or something is blocking your growth.

The Devil represents your shadow (or darker) side and the negative forces that constrain you and hold you back from being the best version of yourself.
Half man half beast the Devil sits on his perch in a black room. He has the head of a horned goat. a reference to Capricorn, the astrological sign associated with this card.

With his bat-like wings, clawed eagle's feet, and mesmerizing stare, the Devil exerts his power, passion, and control over you.

The Devil leads us to believe that we have no choices in life, that we are stuck where we are.

When the Devil reverses, a new story and perspective are available.

Traditional meanings of the Devil reversed are Liberation.  Release.  Instead of being stuck in a jam, you are free to go.
