BERLIN WALK | ZEHLENDORF, Clayallee (for Cal 🇺🇸;-)

Zehlendorf, an idyllic district in southwest Berlin, was once home to the Allied Forces stationed in Berlin during the post-war period. The district's picturesque streets and leafy avenues were dotted with Allied barracks and facilities, including the well-known Andrews Barracks on Clayallee and the Oskar-Helene-Heim.

Today, decades after the Allies left, the American flair can still be felt in Zehlendorf. The extensive parks and quiet residential areas are reminiscent of the time when American soldiers and their families lived here. The architecture of some buildings still bears the style of the American occupation, and the streets are lined with shops and restaurants that are a reminder of the cultural diversity that the Allies brought to Berlin.

The Oskar-Helene-Heim and Clayallee in particular are living witnesses to this past. Clayallee is lined with charming shops and cafés that offer a unique mix of American and German culture. The Oskar Helene Home, once a US Army hospital, has been converted into a popular place to live and relax and continues to contribute to Zehlendorfs cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Zehlendorf therefore remains a place where the history of the Allied occupation is still present and a touch of America can be felt in the middle of the German capital.
