This is a short video attempting to capture my feels about this relationship. It was doomed from the start and I don't think they were right for each other...but I think Aiden's feelings for Lydia were genuinely sweet. What I like about how it all played out was that it wasn't that Aiden was a "bad boy" and Lydia was the "good girl" who saved him. Lydia was just a girl who Aiden ended up falling for right at the point in her life where she was discovering that she could be more than a prom queen.The line from the song "she belongs to fairytales that I will never be" kind of alludes to the fact that during season 3 Lydia became a true member of Scott's pack and a hero. And it was her heroic journey that inspired him to stand up for what was right in the end...with tragic consequences. The line from the song "she belongsto fairytales that I will never be" kind of alludes to the fact that Lydia is part of Scott's pack, she's a hero and a "good guy."
As for Stiles, I never see anybody ever vid this love triangle, and when they do it's usually Stiles being jealous of Aiden, where canonically it was the opposite. Aiden was (subtly) jealous of Stiles, and I think it played an important factor in his transition and eventual redemption. Aiden saw Stiles as exactly the sort of "good guy" that Lydia was realizing she wanted to be with. He knew that Stiles liked Lydia and when everything with the Nogitsune happened and he saw how worried Lydia was, he realized she had feelings for Stiles too. In the end, I think it was significant that Lydia ran into Stiles's arms for comfort - I can sort of imagine Aiden seeing that (in the afterlife or the in-between or whatever you believe in) and letting go of his jealousy and just being glad that she has someone who cares about her to look after her. That's where the whole "Emily will find a better place to fall asleep" thing comes in.
