Guter Mond Du gehst so stille (Liedtext in der Urfassung)

„Guter Mond, du gehst so stille“ ist eines der bekanntesten Volkslieder im deutschsprachigen Raum. In der Urfassung entstand das Lied im ausgehenden 18. Jahrhundert und erfreute sich großer Beliebtheit. Die Verfasser von Text und Noten blieben allerdings unbekannt.
An den Mond adressiert, steht das Lied ganz im Zeichen der Romantik und thematisiert die unstillbaren Sehnsüchte und Phantasien einer Liebesbeziehung, die an realen Verhältnissen scheitern muss.
Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts wurde der Text von dem Frankfurter Pädagogen Karl Enslin zu einem Kinderlied mit christlich-erbaulicher Tendenz umgearbeitet. In der Folgezeit wurden weitere Versionen veröffentlicht und ließen das Liebeslied in einen Dornröschenschlaf versinken.

"Good moon, you go so still" is one of the most famous folk songs in German-speaking countries. The original version of the song was written at the end of the 18th century and was very popular. However, the authors of the text and notes remain unknown.
Addressed to the moon, the song is all about romance and deals with the insatiable longings and fantasies of a love relationship that has to fail due to real circumstances.
In the middle of the 19th century the text was reworked by the Frankfurt pedagogue Karl Enslin into a children's song with a Christian, uplifting tendency. In the period that followed, other versions were published and let the love song sink into a slumber.
