The first thing you need to do when presented with an assignment is analyse the assignment question by identifying the task words, keywords and limiting words.

Consider the following assignment topic:

Discuss how the development of artificial intelligence will impact university libraries in the next 5 years.

Task words indicate what you have to do and can be related to the type of assignment. Example task words include: evaluate, compare, discuss and critique

The next step is to identify the keywords. These are the terms that you will need to begin your research.

Lastly, you need to identify limiting words. Limiting words provide scope or boundaries or your topic. Examples include: in Australia, or in the last 10 years
