Jeremy Prupas, Chief Veterinarian at the City of Los Angeles Animal Services, emphasizes the importance of spaying or neutering your pet. Not only does the procedure prevent unwanted pregnancy, but it also provides many health benefits, such as no risk of infections or disorders in reproductive organs.

The City of Los Angeles has a Spay/Neuter Ordinance requiring pet owners to have their pet spayed or neutered by four months of age. Income qualified Angelenos will receive a certificate for a free spay or neuter. All other City residents may obtain a $30 coupon for their animals to have this surgery at participating veterinary hospitals.
