Описание к видео Ozone layer | Without ozone layer | ozone Layer explained in hindi

The ozone layer is a region of Earth’s stratosphere that contains a relatively high concentration of ozone (O₃) molecules. Ozone is made of three oxygen atoms bonded together. While oxygen in its normal form (O₂) is what we breathe, ozone plays a very different role: it absorbs the majority of the Sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation.
The ozone layer is found roughly between 15 to 35 kilometers (9 to 22 miles) above Earth’s surface. Although ozone molecules are present throughout the atmosphere, about 90% of them are concentrated in this stratospheric layer. It is not a uniform “blanket” but rather a diffuse region where ozone molecules are continually being created and destroyed in a natural cycle.
Formation of Ozone
The creation of ozone in the atmosphere is a result of a natural chemical process. When the Sun’s ultraviolet light strikes ordinary oxygen molecules (O₂), it splits them into single oxygen atoms. These single atoms then combine with other oxygen molecules to form ozone (O₃).

The balance between the formation and destruction of ozone maintains the concentration of this layer. This natural cycle, known as the ozone-oxygen cycle, ensures that the ozone layer can absorb UV radiation while still remaining stable over time.
Importance of the Ozone Layer
The ozone layer’s most important function is to absorb nearly 97–99% of the Sun’s medium-frequency ultraviolet radiation (UV-B and UV-C rays). These rays are highly energetic and can cause severe biological damage. Without ozone protection:

1. Human health would be at extreme risk. UV radiation can cause skin cancers, cataracts, premature aging of the skin, and suppress the immune system.
2. Ecosystems would suffer. Many plants are sensitive to UV radiation, and excessive exposure can damage their growth and reduce crop yields.
3. Marine life would be threatened. Phytoplankton, the microscopic organisms that form the foundation of ocean food chains, are highly vulnerable to UV radiation. A decline in phytoplankton would ripple throughout marine ecosystems.
4. Climate balance would be disrupted. Though not a greenhouse gas in the same way as carbon dioxide, ozone plays an important role in atmospheric chemistry, influencing temperature and circulation patter
Ozone Layer Depletion
In the mid-20th century, scientists discovered that human activities were disrupting the natural balance of ozone. Chemicals known as chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), once commonly used in refrigerators, air conditioners, and aerosol sprays, were found to rise into the stratosphere. There, ultraviolet radiation breaks them down, releasing chlorine atoms. These chlorine atoms then destroy ozone molecules in a chain reaction.

The most dramatic evidence of this depletion was the discovery of the ozone hole over Antarctica in the 1980s. During the Antarctic spring, unique weather conditions and the presence of CFCs led to severe thinning of the ozone layer.
Global Response and Recovery
In short, the ozone layer is a shield that makes life on Earth possible, and protecting it remains a priority for the health of future generations and the planet itself.
