When I came to this remote cabin along Minnesota’s Gunflint Trail, I was looking for quiet. A few days off, a frozen lake, and enough distance from the world to breathe again. Instead, the emergency alerts began to roll in, the roads went silent, and something violent started spreading beyond the treeline. With no phone signal and no clear answers, I did the only thing that made sense—I turned the cabin itself into a last line of defense, reinforcing doors, blocking windows, and building barricades inside the hallway to buy time if the outside failed.
